Here are some of the useful resources that you may like to browse. These concepts, thoughts and actions help us in our daily work and play. And it might help you too! Most of the resources are educational in nature. And we would like to add such resources from time to time. Tell us how you like them.
This is a wonderful tome of work on entire System Thinking by Michael C. Jackson. It highlights how it might be used for finding creative solutions for complex problems managers face. Read more....
This slide show illustrates the basic concept of Rapid Innovation -- the heart of our work. The idea is that when faced with a challenge or a problem we don't jump to any conclusion or attack a particular part. The trick is to see the system as a whole and understand the interplay and interaction between different parts and then come up with a list of system imperfections. Thereafter, the challenge lies in negating or eliminating such imperfections for good to get the desired performance from a system. It is illustrated by means of a primitively designed unreliable vechile that we still have on our Indian roads. View it......
Toyota is a company that believes in mass innovation. In fact the company is not about cars it is all about thinking and doing. Over the years it has transformed itself into a thinking organisation. And therefore, it has the highest number of innovations per employee per year that any company might only dream of. But how do they achieve this trick? The secret lies in the famous A3 report. It is a perfect platform to share, collaborate, mentoring and take collective decisions and much more. Click to view and download the sample A3 report for guidance.
Chaos, contrary to the popular belief, is not 'disorder'. Behind the seeming randomness lies a pattern and order. But what is most important is that almost all real life situations are chaotic in nature and therefore cannot be solved by know methods that we have in traditional engineering. Hence we are not very comfortable to tackle randomness till date. This slideshow gives a very brief, and possibly clear introduction to this very important field of our present understanding and how we may go about solving challenges of our real life situations or creating new holistic designs in an effective manner. The fundamental rules and system characteristics are outlined. We use this theory extensively in our work, which makes them so enduring . View it....
We subscribe to Prof. Ilya Prigogine's treatment of Chaos. He is the first one to deal with the subject in a scientific manner -- stripping it off the mumbo-jumbo -- usually associated with this field of scientific enquiry. This online tutorial comes from Ilya Prigogine's Centre of System Dynamics of Texas University. It gives in clear terms about our understanding of Chaos and how we may apply the principles in our work. Want to go through it....
This is the Nobel Prize acceptance lecture of Prof Ilya Prigogine. He received the coveted prize for his work on Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics -- the fundamental basis of Chaos. The lecture strongly underscores the importance of Non Equilibrium Thermodynamics and why it produces chaos. It also explains as to where we went wrong in our understanding of the physical world around us and what is needed to correct our understanding. No doubt it is an important milestone in our continuous dialogue with nature. Read more......
Tim Brown is a British designer of international repute. He now lives in the US and is the CEO of IDEO -- undoubtably the foremost design consulting firm in the world. He has been a ardent campaigner for the philosophy of Design Thinking. Design Thinking permeates the work that we do on a daily basis. Read more...
In this slideshow Tom Peters, a leading thinker of our times rants in his very characteristic manner as to why Design Rules! and why we simply cannot do without Design. It is the heart of all competitive impacts today. His thinking has had a profound effect on our work. View it..
This article is from the Design Council Magazine of the UK. It discusses a very important issue. The issue is: if only one company can really be the cheapest how would others survive in this competitive world. Read more...
Dynamic Balancing at times may prove to be tricky or confusing. But our good friend Simon Mills of the UK is a master of it. He knows it like the back of his hand. And we are sure he can reply to your questions on vibration while he sleeps. He is presently the Director Training with AV Technology. He also did a fine job of designing the world's smallest and cost effective vibration data collector. He is a master designer in his field. Read more...
The lucidity of writing about System Thinking by Donella Meadows is simply brilliant. Hard to digest concepts are explained so easily. To get a quick understanding of System Thinking ....Read more
There is always a confusion about whether to isolate or absorb machine vibrations to protect the machine or the structure. This article clearly deals with this often confusing subject. Read more on this.....
